Survivor Services

AARBF programs are very important to the recovery process.  Peer support helps build confidence for burn survivors recovering after an injury. Participation in peer programs increases self-esteem and are a good opportunity for survivors to connect with those with similar injuries.  For more information about the importance of AARBF programs, please contact your local survivor services coordinator.

AARBF survivor events are solely for those with burn injuries.  AARBF hosts holiday parties throughout the State of California, giving families of burn survivors an opportunity to come together and celebrate. Adult burn survivors can bring their support network including parents and/or siblings to the Getaway. This is an opportunity for adult survivors to share their experiences with a statewide network of people affected by burn injuries.

AARBF partners with the Firefighters Burn Institute and Shriners Hospital of Sacramento to host Little Heroes; a recovery program for burn survivors ages 3 – 6 and their families.

AARBF offers burn survivor peer support groups on a monthly basis in the Northern and Central office regions. In the Southern region, burn survivor support groups are offered weekly.  For more information about times and locations, please click here.

Adult survivors are invited to attend The Getaway, a three-day retreat offered annually during Labor Day Weekend in Oakhurst, CA. Please contact your regional office with any questions you may have.

Yes!  While many AARBF events are regional, staff encourages any past attendees to continue to attend.  Please contact your regional office to get more information about pick-up and drop-off opportunities.

AARBF partners with Angel Flight for those unable to meet at one of the five Champ Camp pick-up locations. If you are unable to make it to a pick-up or drop-off location, please contact your regional office and the survivor services coordinator to discuss additional options available.

A child’s care is AARBF’s number one priority.  Please speak with your physician to discuss your child’s specific care needs as well as the level of activity your child can participate. Scholarships for World Burn Congress are available through the Phoenix Society.  Please contact the Phoenix Society for more information on scholarships offered.

AARBF is committed to safeguarding the physical and emotional health of burn survivors. AARBF strives to maintain a high event quality, limiting the number of participants as well as requiring an appropriate chaperone to child participant ratio to ensure standards are met.
