Margarita began working as a Survivor Services Coordinator for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation in June 2008. Prior to joining the Foundation, she worked as a Program Director serving the homeless population, for the Food on Foot non-profit organization in Hollywood, CA. Before working for Food on Foot, AIDS Service Center (A.S.C.) hired her as a Housing Case Manager-serving the HIV/AIDS population. She attended Cal State University Los Angeles, where she worked on a Social Work degree. The School of Social Work required an internship with the Salvation Army “Alegria,” in Los Angeles. During this internship, she served children and their families affected by HIV/AIDS-while she worked part-time with developmentally disabled children. She has volunteered for many agencies, one being the Skid Row Housing Trust in Los Angeles-where she served homeless men affected by mental illness, HIV/AIDS, as well as drug and alcohol abuse. There she volunteered for three months. And finally, Margarita volunteered for the Big Brothers- Big Sisters program- where she worked as a Big-Sis (mentor), for a 12-year-old foster child for one year.
